It is true that sometimes, knowing that I have done my job is reward enough. It can be all in a day's work but there is the spark and warmth generated by seeing reflections of relief, gratitude, and sparkles of hope and optimism when I know that I have helped someone during their times of confusion, anxiety, and fear, brought on by an overwhelming sense of cascading pressures. Often, I discover that most of their need is to be listened to, and getting the assurance of accurate and honest information to help them make informed decisions. What is most satisfying to me is when they express and articulate their gratitude, which reminds me that I, in my own way, am indeed making a difference.
And those two words, which echo in various ways, are something to hold on to for continued inspiration.

A pat in the back gives me the energy to go on --- not to satisfy the ego, but to at least know that the efforts are appreciated.
