Today is the last day of spring break before our administrative holiday tomorrow and the start of spring quarter on Monday.
It was the ideal time to take a colleague on a campus walking tour. Andrew started as the newest full time staff in our office. Coming from off-campus, it was a chance to show him the various student service units where we often refer our undergraduate advisees.
I found it to be a very pleasant, productive tour. The staff who greeted us were accommodating and forthcoming with information about their services, as well as challenges.
The relatively empty campus made us take in the aesthetics and ambiance of our workplace environment outside our own office. Personally, it was a refreshing perspective of what it is like to be where we are in our professional lives and the opportunities that are available to seek and take advantage of, whether as a newcomer or continuing staff. I think the tour also reinforced why we do what we do in our jobs and connect with colleagues who share similar goals of providing student service and support, in the context of institutional imperatives and constraints.
It was a fun and invigorating morning.
I also got a nice tan.

I wonder if Andrew is cute and single. But then, that's just me.
