Relief

Sandpaper.

That was how my skin felt like this past week, when all of a sudden, I had a breakout of dryness that led to itchiness. Scratching the itch was a natural reflex but only for temporary relief. Soon enough, the skin would feel raw with a sting of irritation from my vigorous scratching.

Although I have body lotions, their perfumed concoction made me stay away from them. So, after pat-drying the affected areas whenever I showered, I used baby powder instead. Maybe it was all psychological but doing so tempered the itch. However, its application further highlighted for me the sandpaper roughness that was especially prominent on my forearms, thighs, and ankles.

Finally, I was able to stop by a local drug store yesterday and bought a Eucerin product that has a label of "Dry Skin Therapy - Calming Itch-Relief Treatment - External Analgesic Lotion." It also mentioned that it was "preferred by dermatologists" and that it was "free of fragrances that can irritate sensitive skin."

So, I gave it a try. It was fast absorbing and lightweight that spread easily on the skin as it claimed. There was no repulsive smell and its 0.1% Menthol active ingredient truly gave my skin a cool relaxing effect. It hasn't even been a full 24-hours since my usage and I already feel and see the difference. I am confident that there will be more improvement as I use it on a regular basis.

I am rarely amazed and impressed by commercial products out there but this Eucerin lotion is now a favorite of mine!

  1. I can't live without lotion!!! I moisturize galore --- my face, body ... everywhere! On a daily basis, right after a shower. They say it's the secret to younger-looking skin. Your itching is definitely due to the dryness and baby powder WILL worsen it. Anyhoo, if you don't like using lotion too much, try a body wash with moisturizers like Dove creamy body wash instead of soap.
