This and That

I am taking a break from wrapping/bagging Christmas gifts because I wanted to research the phone number that sent me a very obscure one-word message of "Hey" in my cell phone. I didn't recognize the number and there was no other identification. It got me curious but it was most likely just a random text. I am not going to reply since I don't want to start an anonymous conversation with ... who knows?

Meanwhile, songs from the long off-air TV show, "Ally McBeal" (AM) are playing in the background. The AM songs are very catching and listening to them complement my recent DVD viewing of the series. In fact, I am half-way done with Season 1 (of its five seasons), with three more discs to go out of the six in the pack.

AM aired from 1997-2001. I just saw the show sporadically because I was distracted with other things. But I remember that when I was actually attentive enough to finish an episode, I found myself reflecting on its lessons (primarily about relationships, friendships, sense of self, love & intimacy) and being drawn to the songs that resonated the theme at the moment. AM was primarily a comedy series but in the episodes that I have reprised so far, there had been a good dose of drama and suspense.

When I am not watching the DVD, I enjoy playing the "Ally McBeal" songs, performed by Vonda Shepard. And I believe that the appeal to me is listening to some of the "oldies" vocalized and emoted in a more contemporary rendition that is no less moving than the original songs.

  1. Hey...that was me texting you! OK, I was kidding =). I didn't think you were checking your texts so I resort to e-mailing. More fun that way anyway. I have finished seasons 1,3 and 4 of "Medium" and just saw season 3 of "Ghost Whisperer". 2 TV series will keep me busy for a while before I check out Ally McBeal. Heard so much about it though in its heyday. It's strange I never caught a glimpse of at least one episode.
