Splat!

On Tuesday evenings, I go to Discovery channel and watch "Dirty Jobs."

I became fascinated by it after seeing my youngest brother watching it one day. I thought at first, "Who would want to watch THAT show?!?" But it has turned out to be unbelievably eye-opening, amusing, ever so often gut-wrenching (literally), mind- and sense-boggling and undoubtedly humbling.

Mike Rowe is a very entertaining and charismatic host of the show despite how dirty he engulfs and risks himself to the task at hand (too many to mention here). His crew are quite a team as well in capturing the visual shots from the most enclosed spaces to the overly breathtaking and death-defying ones.

The show involves real people, places, activities and responsibilities that make society function. This comes from various mechanisms, procedures, operations and resources that are often taken for granted by many of us who are not intimately engaged in the tedious, intense, skills-driven, sweat-enhancing, dangerous and risk-filled hands-on jobs that Mike Rowe and his crew encounter to introduce to the TV audience. For the featured individuals in the "dirty jobs" industry, they view them as part of what they naturally do or have to do, sometimes without even a thought anymore. Yet, it attests to the strength and endurance of body and spirit, as well as a demonstration of human fortitude and persistence in doing the necessary dirty jobs for the benefit of a greater good.

As much as I appreciate what I learn from the show, I am glad that I have a television and not a smell-a-vision or a taste-a-vision whenever I watch "Dirty Jobs."
