A year ago, I visited friends in Chicago, Illinois (April 30 - May 3, 2008).
My last visit was in summer 2001 so it was a trip that I looked forward to. I stayed with Yas at her condo in Lincoln Park that overlooked the pond. It was a great view and the sunrise was especially glorious.
Bernie works on Michigan Avenue. Before the three of us had planned dinner together on the second day of my visit, I spent the morning by myself (Yas and Bernie were at work) and I explored Lincoln Park; I went to the Zoo and Conservatory. I appreciated and enjoyed having that vast oasis while in the city, and I still admire its convenient accessibility.
I then took a short bus ride to downtown. Yas and I met Bernie in her office at the end of the work day, after which, we took a walk to Millennium Park and spent some time there taking pictures. I relished the sights and sounds of the city as if I was a first time visitor all over again. The skyscrapers were impressive. I remember the bright-colored tulips along Michigan Avenue and accompanying art work. We passed the bridge across the Chicago River and I imagined how walking in the city must be like on a spring evening when dusk has given way to the night.
We had a hearty dinner then went back to Yas' place. The three of us caught up and chatted all through the night until the wee hours of the morning, which was all we pretty much did during our time together. It was a LOT of fun just being together...talking, sharing, laughing, reflecting and appreciating each other's presence in our lives. I think that friendship is the greatest gift and blessing...when time and distance disappear at the moment of reconnection.
I miss Yas and Bernie.
I miss Chicago.

Aaargh! Lost my recent post...re-writing it again...
ReplyDeleteYou have such an amazing memory Arlene! In fact, we are currently celebrating Tulips on Michigan Avenue. As a marketing campaign, there will be a floral market next to the bridge by the Chicago River from tomorrow through Saturday. Visit www.themagnificentmile.com for more information.
In June, we will be having a concert series for summer's marketing campaign. I will force myself to finally take lunch at this time and be an anonymous bystander (as opposed to a staff/volunteer) to enjoy free live music outdoors. I think I texted you last year when I was sitting by myself crowd-watching =).
Spring is my favorite season and I'm still missing the spring weather in Chicago though. Historically, it's been winter...ONE day spring...then summer.
Nevertheless, lots of cool stuff happening at this time. Wish you were here.
Chicago, my kind of town! =)

P.S. Wish us luck for Olympics 2016, results will come out this October.
I'm going to Chicago tomorrow! I'll look Bernie up if there's time. Do you mean Yas Gosiengfiao?
ReplyDeleteYes, Bubbles, I mean Yas Gosiengfiao. :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Chicago. It's one of my favorite cities and destination!
