Harnessing the Wind

Wind turbines are a familiar sight to those traveling through the San Gorgonio Pass near Palm Springs. About 4,500 of them are out there, representing 80 wind farms.

When my family drives to Agua Caliente (Casino/Resort/Spa) for a getaway, we would always pass by these wind turbines. They are visible from afar and at close range, do seem like giants that Don Quixote envisioned in his adventures.

They are fixtures of the Southern California desert landscape - poetic and scientific - depending on the impressions they leave you.
