Winter's Return

After having days of summer-like conditions in January, today returns impressions of winter time - cool air, gray skies, and even some rain. I like the change, which often puts me in a reflective mood, including poetry-writing...

Gray

A thick veil of mist and fog
Blankets me with dampness.
Overcast skies, with the sun
Peeking through the hide-and-seek play
Of fleeting light
Of teasing rays
Of lingering shadows
Of moments captured in time
Seized in memory
In the quiet stillness of reflection.
I feel the gift of warmth from within
And the touch of affection
Reaching out for me
Should I sleep or remain awake
When the veil lifts and soon paves
The way for light, for color
And for all things
That loyally remain?
Unaltered but revived
By the momentary kiss and caress
Of the damp velvet gray.
