In-person

As I walked through an empty parking lot on my way to get some dinner, I saw a tall elderly man walking out of a local Whole Foods store with a brown paper bag in each hand that contained what I assumed were groceries. There was also a bouquet of flowers in each bag.

I thought the face looked familiar. I didn't ogle but kept a steady gaze so I could lock on the facial familiarity. Since I was the only one in motion from his opposite direction, he made brief eye contact with me, and almost self-consciously.

And then it clicked ... it was Jon Voight! (Actor and father of actress Angelina Jolie and the character Jonas Hodges in the TV series "24" - Season 7).

When we passed each other, I instinctively looked back over my shoulder just to make sure that it wasn't a look-a-like. I believe it was really him with his signature combed-back style of silver hair! He was dressed casually in black and from the back view he looked very tall.

There were two people outside the store who were eating on a solitary table and might have recognized Jon Voight as well. When I passed them buy, I heard one of them said, "Let's see what kind of a car he drives..." I was too hungry and cold to linger and care.

Still, it was an interesing sighting. I rarely see recognizable actors and actresses in close proximity without the crowds, lights, cameras, media or premieres for purposes of promotions or public relations. Jon Voight just looked like any tall individual with grocery chores to bring home.

Actually, I think I was more interested in the bouquets sticking out of the grocery bags than actually having crossed paths with *the* Jon Voight.
