After two hours of walking and nearly covering six miles in a double loop through Palisades Park along Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica yesterday, I am thankful for not feeling any soreness in my legs at all!
I always remember to stretch, which I did. It was a nice pause from the walk as I enjoyed the great, expansive view of the ocean in the early evening, pre-sunset time of the day. But I give the most credit for my invigorating, sore-free walk to my month-old purchase of New Balance running shoes (Style 812AT).
I purchased those shoes online after knowing what to look for. I have two older pairs of NB shoes which I bought at a local store. Getting feedback from the sales staff was very informative in guiding my research for my online order.
I was excited when those shoes arrived a month ago. I used them immediately for some errands and since then, I've never been disappointed. The ad description was valid and reliable, especially in its guarantee of maximizing "shock absorption and comfort." The cushioning was also very helpful and the stability assures me that my pronated ankles are protected. Although I'm not a runner, running shoes vs. walking shoes are more practical for me, precisely for the comfort I seek in the mileage that I put on them.
I've always been intrigued by the New Balance brand and I am now a fan since owning my first pair of shoes four years ago. The fit and comfort are perfect for me and I consider the brand as a good investment.
I don't run marathons but I do enjoy my walks.
It was foggy yesterday but it didn't deter me. It was interesting to see and feel how the sun's intensity changed throughout the walk; how the whiteness of its brightness gave way to a softer yellow-orange color as sunset approached. Indeed, the fog obscured the horizon, where sky and ocean were indistinguishable.
For me, it was the best time yesterday to enjoy the view and relative quiet of the area. With the Los Angeles Marathon today, dubbed "Stadium to the Sea," (from Dodger Stadium to near the Santa Monica Pier, a coverage of 26+ miles) I wouldn't want to be lost in the crowd as they reach their final destination.
