Throbbing Nuisance

I was transferring things from my purse to a newer, roomier tote bag. As I picked up my folding fan, I felt something woody and sharp.

I caught a splinter in my right forefinger. Although it was thin and just about less than half a centimeter long, I saw it partially lodged under the skin like a needle through a fabric.

It was uncomfortable. My instinct was to pull it out and should have probably waited until I had my tweezer available to do the work but I ended up trying to push it out instead by squeezing. Well, the splinter lodged deeper and I saw dots of blood at both ends. While it was there, my finger throbbed in the local area. I was amazed by the nuisance created by such a small foreign object.

I think the small bleeding helped me see the unlodged splinter more clearly. My tweezer was ineffective since using it with my left hand proved to be more awkward than I thought. A little more squeeze of the affected area exposed the unlodged object enough for me to be confident that it could be taken out. My fingernails caught it and I just yanked it out.

Instant relief! Throbbing gone!

I think a paper cut feels worse.

  1. Can you imagine how many people go to the ER just to have their splinters taken out? Anyway, I hope you've had tetanus vaccine
