OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was the email reply that I received from a student after I confirmed with him that he has finished all of his degree requirements to officially graduate as a Fall 2009 degree candidate with his BA Philosophy degree.
He is just one of the many I have encountered who had to go through challenges and ongoing doubts on whether it (graduating) was even possible. He has withdrawn (= dropped out) from registered terms several times in the past, delaying his degree considerably.
The one thing preventing him from officially graduating when we last met a few weeks ago before the holiday break was ONE unsatisfied requirement.
Somehow, it worked out that he got a departmental exemption based on several related coursework that he already completed. Which means, he does not need to delay his graduation any longer. His previously "now or never" disposition, at times despondently, about getting his degree has shifted into an immediate reality right now of an achieved goal. I am certain that this is pride and achievement that he shares with his parents, who have been anxiously anticipating this milestone for their only child.
I wish that this will motivate him to start the year on a positive, hopeful note, and inspire him to move on with his life.

Congrats Arlene!
