Cheers!

I had a workgroup meeting the other day and we decided to meet at Napa Valley Grill in Westwood Village, an off-campus location. It was my first time there and just walked by it with a curiosity in the past.

There were six of us who occupied the patio area. Everybody got happy hour drinks and appetizers. Me? Aside from the iced water with fresh lemon slices, I got a sangria.

It was a nice, refreshing summer drink. The bright red color was pretty as an orange slice accented the wine glass.

A colleague ordered a "whiskey neat" (a drink consisting of whiskey without a mixer) as his ode to a recent vacation trip to Ireland. He passed it around for us to smell the aroma (some said it was "honey almond") and encouraged us to take a sip. Not everyone did but guess what?! I did! It was potent as I felt the sensation of a spreading warmth down my throat and across my chest. Whoa!!

We went on the business of our meeting but in the end, what I will remember was the great location, fun company and the subtle buzz in my head that I had from *my* drinks (yes, just the one sangria glass and whiskey sip) that lingered into the evening towards a restful sleep.
