Wrapping up '24'

It was the Season 7 finale of "24" (Monday, May 18th) in a special two-hour episode.

The suspense, gunshots and firepower unnervingly unfolded in the drama.

Convictions were constantly tested, and in the strained relationships and internal turmoils of the characters, the uncertainties of moving on remain.

And finally, Tony Almeida's (Carlos Bernard) motivations and duplicity were revealed, in a wrenching scene that etched the pain of his profound loss which he had cloaked in a frighteningly deceptive numbness and cold detachment.

I remember the intensity of my reaction for his killing of Agent Larry Moss.

Yet when Tony had his meltdown in the final hour (7:00 am - 8:00 am), the anger and hatred that I felt towards him softened into shock and pity.

Is Tony good or bad? I have labeled him as 'evil' and now, I am not sure. Yet, a LOT of people died with his complicity.

And of course, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). It would appear that he made his peace into accepting his fate even though his daughter Kim claimed that she wasn't ready to. However Jack becomes in Season 8, my impression throughout this season is that despite his self-doubts and situations that risk losing himself, he always finds himself again.

'24' denotes a race against time in crises. And within that time, I have learned that its theme centers on loss and pain and how one deals with it at varying levels. At its essence, it is about what it is to be human and the legacy of choices made.

My journey with this season of '24' has been definitely an experience! I learned a lot, not the least of which was the emotional roller-coaster and moral challenges that made it such a very compelling show.

With the Season 7 DVD launch today (Tuesday, May 19th), I will most definitely get my own copy very soon!
