Stowe Lake in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park is one of my favorite places. I enjoy the invigorating walk along the periphery (or a leisurely one, depending on my mood) while admiring the view. It was on a Sunday when I first discovered Stow Lake from my "Walking San Francisco" guide book and there was a dynamic crowd, mostly families. The lake was also animated by boat paddlers who were enjoying an adventure of their own.
Stow Lake has two bridges, the Roman Bridge and the Rustic Bridge, which enable passage from the lake's periphery to Strawberry Hill, a mini island onto itself. When I crossed one of the bridges and followed the trail, it directed me uphill along a refreshing tree-laden path and to the top. From there, I caught a glimpse of the city, including the Golden Gate Bridge. I lingered there for a while to catch my breath, enjoy the cool breeze, and scan the area I covered with my hike.
As I descended to lower ground, I saw the familiar bridges. I crossed Rustic Bridge (pictured) and about halfway before going to the other side, I paused to revel in the midst of serenity.
