I was almost resigned to the inevitability of an Indianapolis Colts win as an intellectual bias on my part, but the team that I emotionally rooted for and fervently wanted to win - the New Orleans Saints - hoisted the Super Bowl XLIV Lombardi Trophy!
What an amazing story of a team, a franchise, a city and of the human spirit; its faith, heart and courage.
Quarterback Drew Brees was the Most Valuable Player (MVP). In the interviews that I saw of him after the game, it was impossible not to be taken by the unimaginable emotion that he must be feeling as he graciously articulated what the moment meant for him and for everyone who made this an unforgettable experience.
It was a great game and my appreciation of football and the season made for an interesting viewing experience and conversation exchanges.
Finally, there is this amusing statement that I have heard more than once from the analysts when describing some of the season's key plays: "He's as cool as the other side of the pillow!"
Should I test that? (With a pillow, not a football player.)
