A colleague will be on maternity leave after today, returning sometime in mid-May. Her baby is due on January 9th. Our office gave her a baby shower two weeks ago in a motif of yellow and green pastels. She and and her husband got to open the gifts and read the cards of well-wishes. They chose not to know the sex of the baby until the birth so the rest of us also just have to wait until we are able to know the yet to be named newborn. Very exciting! From us knowing about the pregnancy when she first announced it, seeing her mommy-tummy grow through the months, and the anticipated arrival in a few weeks (if the baby cooperates), it will indeed be a celebration!
The parents-to-be are not fixated on names and I don't think they have any yet, but if you were to choose a baby name, what will it be and why?
At the moment, I like "Dana" (Day-na) for a girl and "Adam" for a boy. Short and simple. Dana was the name of the female lead in the series "The X-Files" and Adam just sounds like a firm yet affectionate name for a first-born son.

For a son ... it will definitely be Cougar (http://dr-ofw.livejournal.com/17405.html). Haven't thought about a daughter's name. Life is harder on the female of the species. Maybe it can be Batsheeba or Babushka.
