Birthday King for a Day

My nephew turned seven years old on January 12th and yesterday, he had a party at a local "Pump it Up!" facility. There were about twenty children who celebrated it with him, along with adults who were just as excited and celebratory.

The bouncers looked fun and I was tempted to try some of them but I deferred to the more nimble, adventurous, and hyperactive kids! Watching them crawl, jump, climb, and slide was quite entertaining enough! I almost forgot how being in a roomful of children with boundless energy could be like.

My nephew looked adorable and grown up in his inflatable "King chair", where he also wore an inflatable crown and scepter. I even heard him say, "I will turn you into a frog!" to some of his playful subjects.

Maddux was truly the star of the day as his guests gathered for pizza slices, salad, drinks, cake, ice cream, goodie bags, and balloons. My favorite part was when the room got dark and he was put on a spotlight with dancing "disco lights" as we all sang "Happy Birthday!" He had a big cake with candles that he blew purposefully, followed by a big applause from the crowd.

As the party was winding down, my nephew was prompted by staff to address his guests. Maddux stood on his King chair ... and with a smile in between his lollipop treat, he thanked everybody for coming to his party.

There was no time to see him open the gifts that he received but I could tell, beyond the presents, that my nephew is truly admired AND loved by many people.

While already in his pajamas later that day, I asked him what his favorite part of the party. He said, "EVERYTHING!!!"

My nephew has quite a memory so I'm sure that this 7th birthday party would be something that he would remember for a while. I know that I would!

Happy Birthday, Jason Maddux!
