After nearly twelve and a half years, I unplugged my old Panasonic TV/VCR combo yesterday and detached the cable. It was steady company for me as I moved in to my first apartment and into my current one.
However, in the past several months, if not longer, watching the picture on that TV has started to become eye-straining. I couldn't seem to fix the brightness, contrast, etc. to make it comfortably viewable. It still works great, otherwise, but I could no longer appreciate what I'm viewing with as much interest or tolerance.
So, with the recommendation of my youngest brother, I pored through selections for a new TV online through Circuit City. I finally found my selection: Toshiba 22LV610U 22in Wide Blk LCD TV w/ DVD. Yes, it has a built-in DVD!
The package arrived yesterday in my apartment. After the set-up, I started to enjoy shows with a crispness and clarity that made it feel like I just owned a new pair of prescription glasses! It was such a difference from my old TV/VCR combo. The new product also has an elegant simplicity that perfectly fits my available space. I now look forward to enjoying my favorite TV/cable shows and watching the DVD's from my collection.
I have to find space to store my old box TV/VCR combo and DVD player. In some ways, it is a requiem to a past, in which memories are like images of varying brightness, color, clarity and mood.
