I remember candy roses on my birthday cake many years ago. I don't recall how old I was but they adorned the cake that I shared with family, relatives and guests. After blowing the candle, and even before my cake was sliced, I plucked one rose from the cake - the toothpick serving as the stem as I licked the icing and took a bite off the sweet candy petal. I remembered it melting in my mouth as I worked on biting each layer of petal until all I had was the bud. I sucked it like a mini-lollipop.
I am aware that certain real flower petals are delicacies, too. I have never tried any apart from my cake's candy rose.
The Golden Gate Park in San Francisco has a Rose Garden. It was amazing to see the variety of rose species and to take the time to admire the different sizes and colors and smell the scent.
Whimsical and attractive roses may be, be careful not to have an adoring insect get in the way of enjoyment, or having a candy petal chip a tooth.

Goodness, you have an amazing ability to play with words. Comparing a real rose with a rose of icing, you gave both of them a flaw. That was so witty :]
