It was a fun & triumphant entertainment on a rainy Saturday, after I saw "Rock of Ages" at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood. I have never ever been to a rock-and-roll live concert before so watching the musical comedy was a treat.
The strobe lights and loud music, the rhythmic struts and gyrating hips of scantily-clad performers on Sunset Strip created the atmosphere of a wild time in the 1980's setting where dreams, innocence, betrayal, politics, and reality clashed.
The musical was essentially a love story expressed in music and song. It was sentimental, endearing, funny, exclamatory, and unapologetically risque (why would anyone bring six- or seven- year old children to such a show, when the advisory audience is "14 and up"?). I tapped my foot with the music and my shoulders shook in laughter from the hook of caring for characters who leave such impressive vocal and physical performances.
I immensely enjoyed the musical. Although my commute home wasn't as sunny and dry as when I was on my way to the theater, the echo of the music wrapped my evening in a nostalgic warmth.

From BroadwayLA.org:
In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl met a big city rocker—and in LA's most famous rock club, they fell in love to the greatest songs of the ‘80s. It's ROCK OF AGES, an arena-rock love story told through the mind-blowing, face-melting hits of Journey, Bon Jovi, Poison and many more. Don't miss this awesomely good time about dreaming big, playing loud and partying on.
CONSTANTINE MAROULIS TO REPRISE HIS TONY AWARD-NOMINATED PERFORMANCE
Tony Award Nominee and American Idol finalist, Constantine Maroulis, will reprise his acclaimed performance as Drew in the First National Tour of the five-time Tony Award nominated smash-hit musical ROCK OF AGES, which will mark its L.A. Premiere at the Pantages. As Rolling Stone magazine says, "ROCK OF AGES has found a perfect lead in Maroulis,” and so like Bartles & James, big hair and Dep, some things are just meant for each other.
