My Kindle Kindles

I finally relented and ordered my very own Amazon Kindle.

The product arrived yesterday with the Belkin Grip Kindle Sleeve (midnight blue color) that I added for its storage and protection. I couldn't remember being that anxious about the arrival of an online order before, checking its status every chance I got.

It was very easy to set it up and so far, everything that has been advertised about the Kindle has met my expectations. Granted, I've only had it for one day, but it is easy to get attached to it.

I already started wireless delivery of FREE books (mostly classics) onto my Kindle. Although I don't really play games, I have ordered the FREE available ones and can take my time later to become familiar with them.

I read a book sample (with the option to buy later) on my way to work yesterday morning. After the 20 minutes or so of bus commute, I noticed that I did *not* have the same eye strain which I tend to get when I read a regular book while in a moving vehicle. And indeed, even in the bright sunlight, the Kindle's electronic ink technology did not have any glare. I also began to think that aside from the technology, the Kindle design as a light yet sturdy and portable thin pad without a backside that overheats facilitated a steadier hold, and consequently, a more focused visual scan on the "page".

I am excited about my Kindle since it is the first and only e-reader and high tech gizmo that I own. I don't have a smart phone, iPod, iPad, etc., but will always have my Kindle. With the books that are already in it and others that I will eventually be adding to my virtual library, I am grateful that I don't have to worry about the lack of shelf space and bulkiness in my purse or backpack.

I will still be reading books in the traditional way by leafing through pages, and will be welcoming visits to local and academic libraries. Having the Kindle just makes me appreciate another dimension of the reading experience. Besides, a 400+ page book doesn't look as daunting in an e-reader.
