I like beef recipes but am not a big steak-eater. And now that I have my own steak recipe that I tried at home, I think I will only be eating steak that I cook.
I recently bought two thin rib-eye steaks from the grocery. Seeing thick steak cuts makes me feel queasy so I opted for the thin slices. Besides, it would just be a meal for one.
I marinated the steaks in garlic salt with parsley and balsamic vinegar and let them set for a few hours in the refrigerator.
I don't have a grill so I just made sure that my skillet was *really* hot. I put in a little vegetable oil for lubrication.
I heard the smokey, sizzling sound of the steak as it touched the searing pan. I adjusted the heat and let it cook on one side for about three minutes before turning it on the other side for the same amount of time. I let it rest on the plate for about ten minutes to let the juices distribute. Meanwhile, I cooked some vegetables from a stir-fry mix as a side dish. I also toasted a couple of slices of bread and spread each slice with some butter. I didn't have wine to go with my meal (at least that's what looks like what most folks have with a steak meal) so I had orange juice instead.
Wow! The steaks turned out to be very flavorful! I think the balsamic vinegar also tenderized the meat since it was easy to slice in bite-size pieces. The veggies were a good complement and the toast bread slices were accessible than mashed potatoes, which I neither had the time nor interest to prepare anyway. I also liked the sweetness of the orange juice.
After a satisfying meal, I boiled water for a soothing hot green tea drink.
It's nice to have the luxury of experimentation when it comes to food. Maybe someday, I will try a steak meal for two, or more.

garlic powder and balsamic vinegar on steak ... yum! no salt nor pepper?
ReplyDeleteOoops! I edited my entry because I meant garlic *salt* with parsley - the McCormick California style brand.
ReplyDeleteBut yes, I'll add salt and paper to taste IF I'll be using just plain garlic powder.
Somehow, the combo of garlic salt and balsamic vinegar has been enough for me for a flavorful steak, even pork chop recipe. :-)
