Edited photos or not, the fact that you get a range of reactions means that you affect and stimulate people on some level: aesthetically, intellectually, emotionally, or however else, to comment and express themselves.
I think that as the photographer, you have the choice to play around with the finished product and the resources at your disposal as part of the creative process. In the end, we see something from your point of view and artistry as a perspective that resonate with our own sensibilities.
